DANVILLE and PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY - Two school readiness events will be held this month to help parents prepare young children for success in kindergarten.

A "Start Strong" event will be hosted by Danville Public Schools on Saturday, March 16, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the George Washington High School gymnasium. The event will feature developmental screenings, vision screenings, and on-site Kindergarten registration. In addition, childhood development experts will be available to answer parent questions. "We hope young children will come and enjoy the bounce house, storytelling, crafts, and snacks," notes Kirby Wright, chairman of the Smart Beginnings Board of Directors.

Another "Start Strong" event will be hosted by Pittsylvania County Schools on Monday, March 25, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Chatham High School cafeteria. Representatives from community agencies and schools will be available to answer questions about programs and services available to parents and children. Additionally, vision screenings will be conducted. The event will also include remarks by Division Superintendent James McDaniel.
