Smart Beginnings Danville Pittsylvania receives regional grant to improve quality of infant and toddler care
"This grant will fund a full time Infant Toddler Specialist, who will provide direct mentoring and training for childcare centers or family home providers in the region. The services are designed specifically for providers working with children ages birth to three. Smart Beginnings Danville Pittsylvania will serve as the fiscal agent and regional coordinator for the grant," explains Ann Vandervliet Stratton, executive director, Smart Beginnings Danville Pittsylvania.
The Virginia Infant and Toddler Specialist Network (ITS Network) was founded in September 2008 when the Virginia Department of Social Services contracted with Child Development Resources to administer these state and federal funds. The ITS grants also fund workshops and classroom resources for childcare providers.
"We are excited about the opportunity to utilize the well-established infrastructure of our local school readiness coalition to provide leadership in training and support for childcare providers in the region. The first five years of life are so important and the educators who care for these children need support and guidance," said Kirby Wright, chairman of Smart Beginnings Danville Pittsylvania's board of directors. "We will continue to work closely with other Smart Beginnings coalitions in the region to ensure a collaborative approach," adds Vandervliet Stratton.
