Meet the Trainers

Dr. Kimberly Johnson

Children’s author and educator, Dr. Kimberly P. Johnson is a former Head Start student and avid supporter of their programs. She teaches Creative Activities for Youth, Working with Diverse Youth at Clemson University as well as a graduate level course, Promoting Positive Youth Development in the Educational Setting. Kimberly has a degree in Early Childhood Education and Communications from the University of North Carolina. She also holds a Doctorate in Curriculum, Teaching and Leadership from Northeastern University and a Master’s Degree in Youth Development and Leadership from Clemson University. She recently completed her post-doctorate work in the Advanced Leadership Program at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. She has received numerous community awards and is the author of 19 children’s books.

Taylor Dee Spencer

Taylor Dee Spencer is the owner of TUMBLEBUS South Charlotte and Beyond FIT Kids, a mobile learning and fitness studio for kids. Taylor loves children, fitness, literacy, music, and movement. She has a Bachelor of Science in Early and Elementary Education from Winthrop University. Taylor was an elementary teacher for 5 years and during that time became highly interested in differentiated teaching strategies for different types of learners. She has a Masters in Youth Development Leadership from Clemson University, and is currently pursuing a Doctorate from Liberty University where her research studies are focused around curriculum and instruction that increases engagement for young learners, teachers, and parents.

Emily Ballance

Emily Ballance, MEd, LCMHC, CSP entertains, educates and inspires audiences across the country as well as online with her humor, honesty, and lively stories. Her presentations to educational groups, associations, healthcare organizations and corporations have been described as “highly entertaining, uplifting and thought-provoking.” Emily holds a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina. She is a former lecturer and counselor at the Duke University Dietary Clinic in Durham, NC, and a wellness consultant for StayWell, a highly successful and innovative employee wellness program at Control Data Corporation in LA, CA. Emily is committed to helping people use positive, affirming humor to enhance their health, happiness, work and well-being.

Carrie Becker

Carrie Becker has 20 years of experience in the field of education with a focus on early childhood and special education. Since childhood, Carrie knew she wanted to be a mom and a teacher. She has bachelor’s degrees in Elementary and Special Education and a master’s degree in Curriculum/Instruction. Carrie has taught in traditional and emergent classroom settings in both public and independent school learning environments. She has a passion for creating environments that foster a love of learning while seeing all children as competent and capable of guiding their own educational path.
